US Dollars are widely accepted in Costa Rica. The local currency is the colon. When paying in US Dollars you will be given change in colones. Do not change currency in the airport as they give you a terrible exchange rate. You can check the current exchange rate here.
There are several ATMs in the surrounding area but none in Playa Grande. The closest ATM are in Tamarindo and Huacus (about 20 minutes away).
The tap water is safe to drink in Playa Grande. Bottled water is also available to purchase in the restaurant.
The hotel can arrange an airport shuttle for you for an extra cost. If you plan on taking several day trips it may make sense to rent a car as transportation can be expensive and there is no good public bus route. If you like we can have a car delivered directly to the hotel for you. If you would like to have the rental car meet you at the airport you can make a reservation by clicking here. The roads in this country have improved significantly which makes driving much easier and safer. Please note that there are not a lot of street lights at night nor street signs of any kind.
RipJack Inn has free Wi-Fi for hotel guests. The signal is strongest in the restaurant.
RipJack Inn has free international calls to US and Canada for hotel guests.
RipJack Inn can arrange an airport shuttle for an additional charge. We can also arrange a rental car to meet you at the airport or one can be delivered right to the hotel.
The plugs at RipJack Inn are 110 which are identical to plugs used in the US and Canada.
The front desk at the hotel can make all arrangements for your tours and activities. RipJack Inn has preferred vendors to ensure the quality and safety for our guests.
Pack light! The weather is always warm here so there is no need for long pants or long sleeves. Shorts, t-shirts, sundresses, tank tops and flip- flops. Playa Grande is very casual. Also remember to bring sun screen as it can be expensive in Costa Rica. If you are coming in the green season you will want to bring bug spray and a light rain jacket.
Turtle season is October – February. During this time the beach is closed to the public from sunset until sunrise. You may sign up for a turtle tour and be accompanied by a park ranger to view the nesting process.

The hotel rooms do not have hair dryers. RipJack Inn does have hair dryers at the hotel reception for you to use while you are here but we think you’ll agree it’s too hot for that!
